Default An Idea to improve account transfer

Hello.

I, (and many players as well), felt a big lump in my throat once I read that my account and accomplishments will be somewhat rendered useless when GW2 comes out. I put a lot of time and effort into my characters and their gear, and got tried to think of ways how to somehow fix it.

After a while of thinking, I might have come up with an idea however. . This idea only works though, in the sense that GW2 will still be primarily skill>time spent based, and my ideas are all surrounded around that theory. (even if this majority is 51% to 49% of the game.

Obviously, I know that cash cannot be transfered, because that unlike weapon and armor looks does affect actual gameplay. For instance, someone with 100k cash or whatever the GW2 currency is can get faster access to the best gear than a person who has 10g. But, why not do something else, simply preserve weapon and armor skin templates and recreate them on gw2 items.

Now, I know probably some people will complain and say: "NO, NOTHING SHOULD BE TRANSFERED OVER OMG DONT BE ELITIST ITS A CLEAN START OMG OMG OMG." Well, this is an expected reaction, but the people who say this must ask themselves: How indeed is bringing over item and armor skins affecting anyones gameplay? Simply put, it keeps the looks and preserves the history better, and players who worked hard to get the skins they really like can still keep them without making anything unbalanced.

Still, this idea in itself is still not perfect. What about gold/purple and req, what difference will it make if a guy has a gold req.8 15^50 crystalline template saved and a purple req.13 12vs.hexed saved? Well, this is also tricky, but it can be distinguished.

First, the lettering distinction will be implemented, obviously to tell the difference between rarity. I don't know if GW2 will also use white/purple/gold for its rarity distinctions, but for the sake of the idea lets assume that. Next, simply for the dmg mod and req, this is what can be done. If you for instance have a req.9 longsword compared to a guy who has a req.12 longsword, the barometer of req. will be in a type of measurement such as stars. Req.8 gives 1 star. 9 has 2. and 12 has 5. These stars can be kept in a horizontal section of the item display window. And dmg mod similarily. 15^50 1 star. 15%-10 2 stars. 15%-5 3 stars. And so forth. By applying this type of division, players can still tell the rarity of an item by star or some type of marking value.

Also, as dmg range, this is the easiest part. For instance. You save your longsword template on your computer. The skin, its req., and dmg mod are there in stars and in appearence. Then, lets say in gw2 you find a low dmg weapon. A starter weapon, lets say in gw2 the swords range for max is 30-50. But your starter weapon is 6-13. If you apply your gold longsword template on it, then you will have a gold lettered, "x" amount of star (stars obviously do not affect gameplay or weapon effectiveness) 6-13 longsword. Again, not giving you an advantage over anyone else.

The idea being you can reuse these templates, although I am not sure if a limit should be applied.

Also mods, sorry for not posting in gw2 huge thread, it would get lost in the mess that thread is in, also please move this if necessary.

Feedback and suggestions are appreciated, but please please keep this flame free and think carefully before posting.

It's a great plan, but the only problem is that they are two different games bro. You really should not be worried as the first Guildwars will still be around and people will play. You will not lose your stuff. You will not lose your character. Think of it like buying Madden 2008. All the changes you made on Madden 2007 will not be there, because it's a completely new game that is being released.

So I understand where you are coming from, but you won't be losing anything. At worst, you'll have TWO games to play, and on one of them you are comfortably established, alot better off than people who will be trying GW1, and there will still be people. I think China just got the game. So really, there's no reason to worry.

Transferring isn't a concern of mine. It's a new game, so it's time to move on. We can still go back and play Guild Wars when we want. Also, according to PCGamer, the tomb thing will allow the transfer of some things.

For the last time:

GW2 is a new game. NOTHING says that they will have the same character classes, models, skills, items, or anything. There likely won't even be crystalline swords in GW2. So stop crying about losing your skins and start warming up to a new game. In the end, the old skins will likely look like crap compared to the new GW2 weapon models anyway. And as for this being purely aesthetic, I would argue that you are not going for looks alone but also for vanity bragging rights, since instead of just the skin you suggest denoting whether the item was purple/gold/whatever.... there will be no item transfer, don't expect it. You should be kissing ANET's collective feet for the fact that they're letting you carry over your titles with you, that's more than most games would do.

Nothing says you cannot continue to show off in GW1 and play GW2 at the same time. Everyone seems to assume that once you buy GW2 you'll never touch the original GW again... This is not the apocalypse, your characters and items will still be fine.

You, my friend, are suffering from steryotypicalitis. Read why I mentioned those things, concerning rarity etc.

Still, I have a feeling this was primarily a pvp-based decision, because titles are the only things pvpers have to show accomplishments.

Start fresh just like everybody else, nothing in the world makes you and your character(or the other complainers) special enough for A.Net to waste resources and manpower on account transferring. Get over it. Nobody is forcing you to get Guild Wars 2.

hmm i'd sacrifice all my account accomplishments for a new guildwars means new engines, new skills, new items, everything new and well improved. i can't imagine the graphics i would say for a 2009-2010 game. we should see at least graphics like gears of war generation gfx in an mmo. so can't wait

I somewhat agree, atleast that we should have more character transferability. ON the point of money, I dont think money is a factor at all. If you do transfer it it doesnt matter. Think about it, is there any difference between a 1.5k set and the FoW set? No, except for looks. getting 7.5k and a bit for materials isnt much of a hasel even as a noob with no help. By the time you reach droks doing missions, you have more than that.

Anyways, Ive started a petition/poll here:

Don't forget though, we're talking WG2 here. If they changed the lvl cap, who knows what the armor situation will be?

Well ya, like I said you will just have the armor template skin. So, hypothetically by having the worst armor you can still apply your old gw skin to it. And by getting higher level armor you can then reapply it to that, if you want. Not changing the statistical value at all, just cosmetic.

Another whine thread.

GW2 is a new game, a sequel.

Don't want to lose titles/levels? Keep playing GW1 till it shuts down(will probably go long after relaese of GW2)

Simple

Now STFU, FFS...

Zero Concern. If anything I am glad most of the need for farming will be 100% eliminated in GW 2. Thank the Fracking Gods!!!

The only thing the monument will do is pass on your family name to RESERVE your character name if you wish in the next revision. Much like an account reset... You will go to GW2 and log in and your character will be there with all his HISTORY intack, but nothing else... I doubt even titles or Rank or anything else will pass forward. There is talk of a kind of family weapon that may be passed forward. but will be account locked like a /Preorder item is. thus untradeable... This is your Legacy into GW2... And quite frankly. thats just great!!! And very well thought out...

GW2 deserves this fresh start. Its a 100% new game with new everything. I love Galies quote saying that the merchants may well say "Ecto what??? Euw thats disgusting... Your ancestors wore THAT??" lol

GW1 will continue, Even the PC Gamer mag hinted at that... so don't fret... there will be things for you to do there for a long time to come...

GW2 is going to be a fresh start. no one is going to change that.

Well, as I've said on another thread, GW2 is set 100 years ahead of GW1, innit? So if you think about it, your existing characters will have aged somewhat by the time the game year comes around. sure you can cast spells from zimmer frames but warriors and rangers will need some serious anti-aging surgery to cope with the new world.

When I first began RPG, we used to have a lot of characters called "Son of..."
Maybe it would be real cute to have the new game acknowledge your Ancestors. "Wow, are you really the great grand-daughter of the God Killer Recna Mor Cena?"

There you go , Now thats how its suppose to work. right there... Nothing more nothing less... Its actually a very clever little thing to add to a new game with some history already...

Please, understand I am not gaining a statistical advantage with this idea, and nobody else is. Also, we are not unbalancing the "fresh" start mentality, and I am not asking for character transfer either.

There is one big thing that stops any kind of transfer.
Anet's wish to keep things balanced, we get it in pvp we get it in pve.

They want to keep the playing field on the same level for everyone, theres one big important thing we are all forgetting, that when we think of these suggestion we are thinking of them as a community that is playing the game, we are forgetting the new people that will come with GW2.

So we the players that are playing now will most likely unlock some cool looking weapons/armors/heroes/pets but it will just be that cooler looking it will have no affect on how much damage you do etc.

One thing i hope that Anet does , is that for weapon skins we will be able to unlock that the weapon be available in the correct time in the storyline, so a max sword skin should not be available right from start, it should be available at the town that other players can buy or trade at collectors for max dmg weapons.
